“Sasha,
I am continuing with the Buteyko breathing exercises and lifestyle changes that you taught to me. I feel great and my wife says she does not hear me snore any more at night. I still use the mouth tape, but I hope to reduce that dependency. My Positive Maximum Pause has settled to around 60 seconds with occasionally more if I am very calm and relaxed.”

I always had sleep apnea problems for as long as I can remember. I was always complaining about it. Finally, I had some sleep studies being done and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea – 425 events during the night they tested me. So, they prescribed a sleep apnea machine, which I had been wearing for about twenty years. I also went to a dentist and start using a dental appliance.
About a year after I was began using a CPAP machine, I developed a heart arithmia problem and ended up having three catheter ablations, which are very expensive (seven and a half hour operations each time). So, that woke me up to to realize that sleep apnea is a serious problem; people don’t necessarily die from it, but it can cause conditions like stroke and cardiac problems. So, I’ve always been looking for a solution other than a CPAP machine. I happened to find the Buteyko Breathing Center online and I went ahead and signed up for a consultation with Sasha Yakovleva, Buteyko Breathing Specilaist. Sasha is a delightful person; she worked with me, and within three weeks I was able to get off off CPAP, dental appliances, and other contraptions that I’ve been using, and it’s already been a life-changing experience for me.
I’d never thought that I was a mouth breather, but Sasha showed me that I was, and she gave me some breathing exercises and some lifestyle changes that helped a lot. I just can’t believe how effective it all was! All the other contractions and gizmos and that I’ve been trying just seem to make things worse. Sasha is very perceptive; you can’t get anything passed her; she’s very knowledgeable, and I think she’s probably heard everything from everybody, and she she’s able to draw out of you a lot of things that you didn’t know about yourself. The main things she brought out that I was not aware was my mouth breathing, and she slowly worked with me, and she gave me the breathing exercises and and some changes I needed to make in my lifestyle, and it’s just incredible how it worked.
The main thing that helped me was using the mouth tape. It’s how I found out that I was a mouth breather. I just start wearing it during the day, and every time you breathe through your mouth, it reminds you about your breathing. So, you cannot breathe through your mouth! It was just a little technique that opened my eyes. Also, on my own I found an app that I used to record my snoring overnight and that was eye opening too. It showed all the apnea events I had, how long they lasted, and how loud my snoring was. The data from that app shows that I’ve been improving. Even though now I’m not using the CPAP machine or my dental appliance to help my breathing at night, I am improving – I still snore a bit but it’s getting less. They told me that it will take about six months to eliminate snoring completely – and this my goal. I don’t want to snore anymore because that’s over-breathing (hyperventilation). I know I can get this under control and I will.
There’s many benefits to breathing normally. Of course, you’re not sleepy all the time because you’re actually sleeping through the night and your sleep is not stressful. My health has never been better! Since my heart operation, I’ve been monitoring my heart pretty consistently, and it it’s just never been better. It’s regular, it’s strong! There’s another iPhone app I use; it measures heart coherence. It shows you to get your heart into a state that they call ‘coherence’, and I can get into that state and maintain it now better than I ever had before. I attribute it to the Buteyko Breathing Center’s techniques.
I have plenty of energy; I have a better outlook on life; I am a lot happier and enthusiastic about the future. People around me, especially the people that sleep in the house, don’t complain. It’s just a wonderful result! I recommend the Buteyko Breathing Center that anybody who has sleep apnea.
