My experience as I learn “Buteyko Breathing Method”
I wanted to write you and tell you how amazed I am at the Breathing Normalization Process. Even though I am only partway through the process, I have already noticed many changes in my health, anxiety levels, and my reactions to things. My breathing is better, I feel healthier, and am making better food choices. Instead of reaching for food to quell my anxiety, I now use the Buteyko Breathing Normalization techniques.
I am amazed at the profound changes that I have experienced using these simple and easy techniques. I am deeply thankful to Sasha and Thomas and the Buteyko Breathing Center.
I am well aware of the power of breath. I am on the board of a non-profit organization, Association for Holotropic Breathwork, which uses the breath as a vehicle to achieve transformative non-ordinary states of consciousness. It is a long, often intense process and you really need a whole day to do it, and it requires the presence of another person. I have a PhD in Depth Psychology and Dr. Grof, who originated Holotropic Breathwork was my dissertation advisor.
I have worked in the field of transformation for over 20 years, am an executive coach, and also teach at the graduate level. I am currently adding brain-based coaching to my toolkit, where we focus on keeping the brain in a state that helps facilitate better thinking. Coaching with the brain in mind stresses the importance of being able to keep the emotional brain from running wild. I can see that Buteyko Breathing Normalization will be very useful for me as a coach, in helping me to keep myself in the best place to assist my clients, and also I am looking forward to actually becoming a Buteyko practitioner in the future, because I want to be able to share this method with others.
I have learned so much from the program already. As a child I had allergies and often got bronchitis when the seasons would change. Because of this, I was a mouth breather, and also snored. In my teens, I developed mild asthma, and sometimes would use a rescue inhaler. I have learned from the Buteyko Breathing course that I was actually causing my self to experience greater anxiety without knowing it simply because I was not breathing properly.
Sasha’s Buteyko Breathing DVD you have provided me is extraordinary—comprehensive, clear, and practical. Sasha Yakovleva-Fredricksen is an amazing person with a background in holistic health in Russia. She is the lineage holder of this method, and Breathing Center is the official representative of Clinica Buteyko in Moscow. Sasha and her husband Thomas are both very passionate about helping people, and they are excellent teachers.
Sasha’s dedication, her deep caring, and commitment to excellence are evident in the wealth and quality of information she provides, and she has a lovely way of presenting the information. I was profoundly touched when Sasha, in teaching about breath holds stressed the importance of being gentle with yourself. She shared that Dr. Buteyko said never use violence against yourself. Wow, that one sentence was worth everything to me. I have become aware of how through my lifestyle choices, I have actually unconsciously been very violent to myself, and now I am able through learning and practice to become a healthier, happier, more whole person.
Thomas has been guiding me through learning the techniques, and has a wonderful calm manner. His patience and dedication to the work are very apparent. He holds graduate degrees in psychology and I am thankful that his own personal journey to health, which he and Sasha fiercely pursued together, has led to so many people both now and in the future being helped through Breathing Normalization.
What I love about Breathing Normalization is that it is easy to do, it feels wonderful, and I can change my emotional state in a positive way within minutes. In my first session, I experienced a state of calm that was amazing. And I wanted more. During recent years I have been under a tremendous amount of stress, sometimes even experiencing shortness of breath, and at times feeling like I was experiencing a panic attack. This happened the other day and by doing the Breathing Normalization techniques, within a few moments, I was feeling completely different. It was astonishing. I have not even finished the course, and already I have received so much. I can never thank you enough.
