A Naughty Skeleton – How Buteyko Breathing Changed a Child’s Life

Meet six-year-old Sara, happily showing off her Halloween skeleton – a healthy transformation thanks to the Buteyko Breathing Method. A few months ago, her family couldn’t imagine her this healthy. Sara’s mother had reached out to Sasha, deeply concerned about Sara’s respiratory challenges: chronic coughing, persistent congestion, frequent colds, asthma, and allergies. These issues, exacerbated by her habitual mouth breathing, kept Sara from fully enjoying her childhood and affected her ability to attend school consistently.

After discovering how the Buteyko Breathing Method could increase Sara’s CO₂ levels naturally, her mother decided to try it, despite initial uncertainty. Over seven personalized sessions with Sasha, Sara learned nasal breathing techniques, guided by her mother’s active support at home. This effort paid off: Sara’s Positive Maximum Pause – a core measure in Buteyko breathing – jumped from under 5 seconds to an impressive 30-40 seconds, enabling her to attend school and play without respiratory interruptions.

Her newfound awareness of breathing is a family joy, too. Recently, Sara tried to close her Halloween skeleton’s mouth, exclaiming, “I can’t deal with this skeleton – he’s a total mouth-breather!” Her family is thrilled, knowing Sara now understands the importance of peaceful, nasal breathing.
