Introducing the Biodentist’s New Course
If you’ve been curious about how oral health can impact your breathing practice and overall wellness, you won’t want to miss this. In a new video, Dr. John Augspurger, DDS, a pioneering biodentist based in Denver, unveils his comprehensive course on the hidden health risks of root canals and how they may contribute to chronic systemic issues.
What Is Chroniosepsis?
Dr. Augspurger’s work aligns closely with Dr. Konstantin Buteyko’s “second discovery,” known as chroniosepsis—the idea that specific chronic, low-grade infections, especially originated in the mouth, can lower CO₂ levels in our lungs, trigger compensatory hyperventilation, and undermine our health. While many of Buteyko practitioners focus on CO2-bossting breathing exercises and lifestyle, persistent infections —particularly in “dead” (root-canaled) teeth—can quietly sabotage our progress. This was the teaching of K.P. Buteyko, MD-PhD.
Root Canals: A Stealthy Source of Infection
Many dentists consider root canals to be routine, safe procedures. But as Dr. Augspurger explains, any tooth without a living nerve can become a reservoir for bacteria. These bacteria release toxins that travel through our bloodstream, fueling chronic inflammation and worsening our health. According to the Buteyko method, they lower our CO2 levels in the lungs (our vitality) and overall oxygenation.
How This Affects Your Buteyko Results
In my own work with clients, I’ve noticed a clear pattern: those with root canals often struggle to raise their morning Positive Maximum Pause (PMP)—the breath-hold time measured after an exhalation—to the ideal 40–60 seconds. No matter how diligently they practiced breathing exercises and followed the Buteyko lifestyle, their morning PMP stayed below the norm until they addressed the underlying dental infection.
In addition, as breathing exercises raise a person’s PMP and strengthen their immune system, they may inadvertently “wake up” a dormant root-canal infection. While this can be inconvenient, it’s ultimately beneficial—once you become aware of the infection, you can address it, leading to significant improvements in your overall health.
Enroll in the Biodentist’s Course
I’ve had the privilege of working with Dr. Augspurger to eliminate sources of chroniosepsis in my own mouth, and I’m immensely grateful for his expertise. His approach is rooted in the teachings of Dr. Hal Huggins, the founder of biodentistry, whom I fondly refer to as the “Dr. Buteyko of Dentistry.”
If you have one or more root-canaled teeth, I highly recommend learning directly from Dr. Augspurger. His new online course covers everything you need to know about root canals.
By understanding and addressing chronic oral infections, you can unlock the full benefits of Buteyko breathing — improved respiratory function, balanced CO₂ levels, and better overall health. Don’t let a hidden dental issue hold you back.
