Q: What is the best educational program you offer for someone who wants to work one-on-one with a Breathing Normalization Specialist?
A: The best way to learn the Breathing Normalization method is to enroll in our Level I Breathing Normalization course. In this case, a student works one-on-one with a Breathing Normalization Specialist, either in person or via Skype (a free Internet videophone). During the course, the practitioner determines the causes of the student’s hyperventilation, and then creates a plan for altering the student’s lifestyle in order to improve their breathing and health. This course is the best way for you to learn the many aspects of the Buteyko Breathing Normalization method, which will improve your breathing and restore your health.

Q: What books do you recommend about Buteyko and Breathing Normalization?
A: We recommend Buteyko Breathing Manualby Andrey Novozhilov, MD. This book is an excellent introduction to the Buteyko method. It is intended for medical professionals as well as for people who suffer from breathing difficulties, including all forms of asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), snoring, and sleep apnea. However, the book is useful for anyone who wants to know more about Breathing Normalization, directly from the source. The book describes the breathing exercises and contains many useful suggestions, including techniques on how to prevent hyperventilation during sleep and how to accurately take breathing measurements. In addition, there is a comprehensive guide to steroid therapy, and how you can practice this in combination with Dr. Buteyko’s method. The techniques described in the book are for both children and adults. The author, Dr. Andrey Novozhilov, is the medical director of Clinica Buteyko Moscow and one of the patent-holders of the Buteyko Method in Russia. He has practiced Dr. Buteyko’s approach for over 40 years. The foreword is by Thomas Fredricksen, cofounder of the Breathing Center.

Q: Why should a parent participate with their child?
A: A parent should participate with their child in our educational programs because we find that the success of a child depends largely on the support and encouragement of parents and family members. Also, depending on the child’s age, the parent may have to actively mentor the child and structure their breathing sessions.

Q: Are your educational courses available only at the Breathing Center in Colorado?
A: All our programs are available online and can be taken from any location in the world.

Q: What equipment do I need in order to take a course online?
A: The only equipment you need in order to take the Breathing Center’s online training is a computer with a high-speed Internet connection, a web camera, and the free software program called Skype.

Q: What is Skype?
A: Many of our educational courses are available as online courses, utilizing Skypesoftware. Skype is a free Internet videophone that simply requires a computer, a high-speed Internet connection and a web camera in order to create a live video link between a student and a Breathing Normalization Specialist. This allows students and practitioners to work together effectively no matter where they live.
