| Biography |
Michael A. Clark has been a professional stress consultant for almost 20 years; he believes passionately that the very best person to look after your health is yourself.
I advocate many different techniques in his holistic approach helping clients deal effectively with the effects of stress. Breathing, yoga, meditation, coaching, counselling, nutritional advice and even sports therapy. It was way back in 1989 when l came across the Buteyko method after watching the BBC documentary Breathless by the programme makers QED.
I instantly got it; I instinctively understood that Buteyko had it right.
Poor breathing was massively under diagnosed, and the fact that over breathing was so prevalent especially in asthma sufferers and along with the fact that the reliever type asthma medicines often exasperated the condition.
Here was a treatment that put the patient/client firmly in their place when dealing with their condition; right bang in the centre. l believe very strongly that the problem with most conventional type treatments is that the client/patient is often taken out of the equation, all that they are required to do is simply take a pill. Here was a treatment that required the client/patient to be much more involved in making their condition better.
Of course even though numerous medical trials have since proven the effectiveness of Buteyko, the drug companies even though this may sound cold, are not going to be interested when their vested interest is in profits and not actually making people better.
l trained at the Moscow Buteyko clinic under Ludmila Buteyko & was actually the last westerner to meet Buteyko in November 2002. I discussed my ideas with Buteyko how the therapy should not just be limited to those with obvious breathing difficulties. l promised Buteyko I would do all I could to help get the method the recognition it deserved.
Since that time l have written two books my first book is called 'How to swap asthma for life'. My latest book is called 'The BEDA Method'. This book is based upon what I feel are 4 key areas to health, using what I call 'Client Active Therapy' ; that means that the client/patient are heavily involved in helping themselves get well. BEDA is an acronym standing for the ART of BREATHING: EXERCISE: DIET: ATTITUDE. |
