Individual Educational Course: Buteyko Method and Lifestyle: |
|

| This individual course is the best and most effective way to learn the patented Buteyko Method. In this course, the student will gain both a conceptual understanding and practical experience in how to apply the Buteyko Method in their lives. The course features 10 hours of individualized one-on-one instruction, and is divided into 5 two-hour sessions. It may be taken in person, at Buteyko Center USA in Woodstock, NY, or various other locations, or online. Sessions usually take place once or twice a week; however, adjustments can be made as individual needs arise. After completion of the sessions, the student also receives one month of support by email or phone, to ensure continued progress. By the end of the program, they will have made significant improvement in their breathing and overall health. Normally, students will eliminate or significantly reduce their symptoms, increase their energy level, and make a significant shift towards a longer and a more productive life. Each of the five educational sessions are divided into two parts, which are called Lifestyle and Breathe Less.
|
| Part I: Lifestyle
In the first part of the Buteyko Method and Lifestyle course, the Buteyko Practitioner explains the foundational theory of the Buteyko Method. Dr. Buteyko studied respiration as it relates to human health and disease for nearly five decades. He concluded that more than one hundred of most common and dangerous modern diseases, are actually symptoms of one disease – over-breathing or hyperventilation. In this course, the Buteyko Practitioner will teach the student about the most common causes of hyperventilation. Since this is an individual course, the Buteyko practitioner will take the time to help the student analyze his current lifestyle, and figure out their individual causes for hyperventilation. With this information, the Practitioner and student will create a plan for establishing a lifestyle that lays the groundwork for good breathing, health and well-being. |
| Diet, physical exercise, sleeping arrangements, speaking behavior, work and relationship issues, spiritual and religious involvement, and other important issues will be discussed. While many students come to us thinking they are 'well-educated' on the subject of 'healthy lifestyle,' they are often surprised to find that Dr. Buteyko's recommendations on this topic are quite different. In fact, Dr. Buteyko's recommendations are often different than commonly accepted medical beliefs on healthy lifestyle. Yet, they are based on decades of research on human health, and the lifestyle factors that promote optimal breathing. Prepare to be surprised! |
Part II: Breathe Less
Dr. Buteyko was once asked to summarize his Method. His answer was, "Breathe Less!" While this is easy to comprehend, it is difficult to apply. Therefore, in the second portion of each Buteyko Method and Lifestyle session, the Practitioner teaches the student the Buteyko breathing exercises – which are the cornerstone of the Buteyko Method. Based on the principle of breathing reduction, they create numerous important physiological shifts. To begin with, they lead to better oxygenation of the brain, heart, kidneys and other vital organs. They also improve metabolism, and the function of the immune and nervous systems. Most importantly, through dedicated practice of the Buteyko breathing exercises, students begins to normalize their breathing pattern, and fundamentally change their health – thereby eliminating or preventing disease.
Adult students generally enjoy the Buteyko breathing exercises. Children view them as a playful game and look forward to continuing them at home. Most students are amazed by the effect of breathing reduction. Within one session, a student will likely experience a deep feeling of calmness, a lessening of an anxious or depressed mood, and of course, effortless breathing. |

| Successful completion of the Buteyko Method and Lifestyle course qualifies a student to become a Mentor of the Buteyko Method, which is the first step in becoming a Buteyko Specialist. Most Buteyko Specialists came across the Buteyko Method when they were searching for a solution to their own, often serious, health issues. By applying the Buteyko Method, they restored their health - and have decided to share this cure with others. After receiving their professional education from the patent holders of the Buteyko Method, they became Certified Buteyko Method Specialists. |
| The Buteyko Method is safe and has no negative side-effects. It is a truly holistic approach and natural remedy for the body, mind and spirit. The Buteyko Method is a drug-free method. However, if a client is taking medicine, we do not recommend reducing or changing dosages. With this in mind, after this course, students often find that medication is no longer needed. Always consult your doctor regarding your medication. This individual course is for adults and children above the age of three. Spouses, children and siblings of a main student are welcome to participate for free.
If you would like to work in person with a Practitioner in your area, we will help you find one. To participate in online programs, simply download Skype - an easy and free program - which allows the Practitioner and student to hear and see each other (a computer with a video camera, microphone and Internet access are required). |
| In order to take this course, a student is required to do a Preliminary Consultation with Thomas Yakovlev-Fredricksen, Director of Education at Buteyko Center USA. This assessment can be done via phone, Skype or in person. It takes approximately 45 minutes and costs $45. |

The main goal of this individual consultation is to help a client (and members of his/her family) evaluate the potential effect of the Buteyko Method on his/her life. In order to determine this, it is important for the Buteyko specialist to measure the client's breathing and learn his health history. During this consultation, the teacher also briefly explains the theory of the Method to the student. Furthermore, this consultation gives the student an opportunity to ask questions about the Buteyko Method. It also helps the student and the teacher become familiar with each other, which is important if the student decides to continue working with the Method. The Preliminary Consultation is a prerequisite for taking the main instructional course - Buteyko Method and Lifestyle. |
| While the Buteyko Method is primarily known as a remedy for asthma and breathing difficulties, it is also very effective for many other diseases – for example, chronic fatigue. Please click here to see the full list of diseases curable by the Buteyko Method as determined by Dr. Buteyko. |
